The Kennesaw Mountain Summit Trail, called simply the “Kennesaw Mountain Trail,” is the busiest of the trails at Kennesaw Mountain National Park. It is a rocky out-and-back trail, where you climb approximately 1 mile to the summit. While the climb can be difficult, the views are unparalleled.
Location: Kennesaw Mountain National Park, Kennesaw, GA
Type: Out-and-back
Length: Approximately 2 Miles (Round Trip)
You will begin your hike at the Visitor’s Center parking lot, remember to pay for parking. Parking is $5 per day, or you can purchase a yearly pass for the park for $40. Leaving the lot, turn left and follow the signs for Kennesaw Mountain Trail and being your ascent. The length of the trail is a bit rocky in places, although there are switchbacks along the way, giving you a bit of a break with even land to walk along. There are benches off to the side giving you a chance to catch your breath and take in the views.
Once at the summit, you will have unobstructed views of Atlanta and Stone Mountain.
After you have taken in the views, continue your hike back down the mountain, using the same trail you used to hike up.
There is a road you can use to drive up, for those unable to make the hike. Note, this road is usually closed on the weekends. Sturdy shoes or boots are a must for this hike.
